Unable to open camera or microphone

Ok so this is on linux (Debian 12)
This is a laptop running Debian 12.
It is a Dell Lattitude EA6530 both the camera
and microphone are built in.

Running Gnome (X11)
Gnome version 3.38.5

Graphics is
NVIDIA Corporation GF108GLM [NVS 5200M]

Sound

Running Caprine 2.57.0 which is the latest version at
the time of making this report.

Now when I go to start a call in caprine it says that it can not open
either my camera or microphone.

The exact message I get is

"Couldn't connect to your camera or microphone
Your camera or microphone are either not connected or not supported. For troubleshooting suggestions, and information on supported browsers, visit our Help Center."

But now hereis the funny thing if I do this right from Facebook
http://www.facebook.com in either Firefox or Google Chrome it works
fine!

I have tested t in both it isn't an issue with my camera or microphone because
i can get it to work perfectly fine in both Google Chrome and Firefox.

I am running the latest version of both I tested in both it.
I also run other programs like Google Meet and MeetMe
on here and the camera works just great and has no issues.

Firefox 102.5.0esr (64-bit)
Google Chrome Version 108.0.5359.94 (Official Build) (64-bit)

So the only thing that isn't working is Caprine it won't seem to "detect"
either my microphone or camera it is one of the two. I am not sure
which. Both of these are the built in camera and microphone.

This is definately something with Caprine.

Hey All,

I have the same problem, Debian, Caprine, etc.
My only addition is, Caprine opens an extra window for the fraction of a second. That should be the request of required permissions, I presume. I suspect at this point that window is closed without the chance given to the user to provide access to the camera and microphone.

I tried to give permissions to messenger.com in my chrome, but Caprine is using a different version / browser seemingly.

A workaround or patch would be nice :)

Same issue here. I have even tried reinstalling Caprine to no avail. I am using Ubuntu 22.04.03 LTS, and it is also not allowing Microphone or Camera access. I have tried in Google Chrome and in Firefox, both work just fine, only in Caprine do issues arise.

Hey!

I managed to figure it out. The problem (in my case) was using snap instead of dpkg.
Seemingly the browser packed with snap cannot ask for permissions properly.

My /etc/apt/sources.list.d/caprine.list looks like this:
deb [trusted=yes] https://apt.fury.io/lefterisgar/ * *

That version works for me just all right.
