Haven’t used the app for a while, in favour of the official application as it can be downloaded from the App Store and that comes with the app sandboxing etc. I decided to open it up again and try it out. I'm on macOS Big Sur Version 11.5.1 (20G80) with Caprine Version 2.54.1 (2.54.1) installed.

Issues:

  • Vibrancy is not working. This comment helps, but it doesn’t work on the full window, and neither does it really apply the transparency effect.
  • If Facebook Messenger is installed, when logging in, you get redirected to the application (not really developers fault, just adding it in) and it causes a huge mess i.e. Caprine becomes useless and cannot go any further.
  • None of the Sidebar (View → Sidebar) settings work.
  • App window shadows disappear (I think after closing the window, but not consistent enough to replicate)
  • Going into Active Contacts, Message Requests, and Archived Chats are all misaligned (again, not necessarily the developers fault) (see)

Extra feedback:

  • It would be nice for the application to show in the current Space on macOS. For example, if you close a Finder window on Desktop 2, and switch to Desktop 1 and open a new Finder window (or even just click the icon; does the same thing but more relevant for Caprine), the Finder window will open on that Space. Currently if you close (⌘W) Caprine, and open it on another Space, it goes back to that Space. I don't think closing a window should act as a "Hide" either. For example, if you close all Safari windows, Safari still stays active. Currently in Caprine, if you close the window the application doesn't stay in the foreground. This behaviour doesn't make it seem like macOS.

Thank you for your time in creating the application.

Hi @noahmaranesi, thanks for submitting this issue! Some of these issues are already known to us but I personally don't have a machine with macOS so until there is a contributor who fixes them, we are stuck with these issues for new design.

I'll keep this issue open in case anyone what's to take a shot at these problems.

@dusansimic would it be more appropriate to rename this thread "Known macOS issues" or something similar?? (Or maybe just have a dedicated one for it; I don't mind updating the thread, but it probably makes more sense for someone working on it to manage it?) 😄

I'm on macos and I'm keen to help out because this app is the best thing since sliced bread. Let's start planning a hitlist.

Any update on this?

@tuhuynh27 none of current maintainers of the app have access to an Apple machine so we can't work on it. If anyone who does have access is very welcome to work on macOS issues and send PRs.
