  • I have searched open and closed issues for duplicates
  • I am using Signal-Desktop as provided by the Signal team, not a 3rd-party package.

Bug Description

Sometimes, when receiving a call, Signal Desktop's UI freezes.
The same sometimes happens when initiating a call.
This happens approximately ever 10th call.

When the UI is frozen, it is not possible to view the debug log. The log window opens but the circle keeps spinning.

When I quit Signal while the UI is frozen, and then open Signal again it starts into the frozen state again.

I have to wait several minutes for Signal to quit (which it does automatically) and then opening it afterwards, it is usable again.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. have an incoming video call
  2. click on "accept"

Actual Result:
UI freezes

Expected Result:
Call should start

Screenshots

does not make sense for a frozen screen. :)

Are you not able to access the debuglog after the app restarts? Logs are preserved between app restarts.

Ah, only saw a few lines inn there and thought it is only starting at application start. Now I found the "save it to see it all" comment. ... Unfortunately I do not know the exact time. ... Will try to reproduce it tomorrow and then add the log.

The freeze occurred some time around
2023-08-10T18:53

I closed it manually at around
2023-08-10T19:09

Starting it again opened the same frozen window ... and then after 20 secs or so, Signal closed automatically (crashed?)

Starting it then, opened normally.

Do I need to remove the label? Not sure how this can be done.

@fschwa From your logs, it looks like there is a PulseAudio error:

ERROR 2023-08-10T18:53:32.245Z src/webrtc/logging.rs:40 (audio_device_pulse_linux.cc:1704): paOperation NULL in WaitForOperationCompletion

How did you install Signal Desktop?

I am using

deb [arch=amd64 signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/signal-desktop-keyring.gpg] https://updates.signal.org/desktop/apt xenial main

in Debian Sid.
