Bug Description

Opened signal Desktop after 4 months 4 hours and 23 mins without using it.

While the app was trying to sync the 4 months of data I sent a message to a group (GM), which lead to all members of the group and myself(on Note to self), receiving the following message from me as a Direct Message (DM):
-Message encrypted for non-existing session

The device was still listed as linked device in the android app. Both the android app and the desktop app are updated

Received on Note to self, a receipt for each message sent saying :
Bad encrypted message

Afterwards I reseted all secure sessions , cleaned all data on the Desktop app and relinked with my phone again

Platform Info

Signal Version:
v1.25.0

Operating System:
Linux (Archlinux)

Linked Device Version:

4.40.4

Seems like the people that are on the same group are sending these messages also :

Just got the same thing from a contact who had just logged into Signal desktop. Other contacts of hers also reporting the same thing.

I got the same problem on messages to myself (which I never use), messages to groups and also messages to contacts. Got a lot of annoyed contacts because their phones went crazy when the "bad encrypted message" messages came in. Some got a dozen or more.
I also did not use the desktop app for a while. It updated immediately after starting and it seems the bad messages were sent when syncing.

The messages to myself did show up as "Message encrypted for non-existing session" on my phone, while messages to contacts did show up as "Bad encrypted message" on theirs.

Note that I did not send any messages, but these were send out en-masse during syncing without any interaction on my part.

Having the very same issue with the exact symptoms as described by @ChristophHornung. Kinda annoying for my contacts, I suppose. 😄

@asdfCYBER @scottnonnenberg this didn't seem to be the same messages as in #2806, that's why I opened a different issue. If you think I should close it, just say.

I have also had this same issue. I did not use Signal for a while on my computer, updated, and it spammed several people on Signal with that message.

It's the same issue, sending lots of error messages after being offline a long time.
