Real time mode (create image only on request) [feature request]

Hello,
the fork from lanrat has an option that the image will be rendered only on request.
This saves some cpu usage and disk io.
Here you can find the commit.

Is it possible to add such a feature?
Sadly I am not experienced enough, to add a feature like this.
