Question: Fallback Behavior Undocumented

It seems to me, that the component only works correctly, if the image can be loaded from the original url. What happens if the image cannot be loaded for whatever reason? Is there a way to implement some kind of fallback behavior except displaying a colored background? (Example: our application serves a base 64 encoded inline image if the image cannot be loaded)
