MISSING LIBRARY FILE IN UBUNTU 24.04.1

Hi,

I have just upgraded from Ubuntu 22.04.5 LTS to Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS and have got the following error when trying to run Liquidsoap:

/home/radio/.opam/4.14.2/bin/liquidsoap: error while loading shared libraries: libswresample.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

When looking in the /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu directory, I see libswresample.so.4 but not the *.3 version.

Presumably, this is a later version but how do I correct the problem, please; do I need to reinstate libswresample.so.3 or force use of libswresample.so.4? Whichever is the preferred option, how do I do it?

I am currently using Liquidsoap 2.2.5+dev but intend to upgrade to 2.3 once I've tested that 2.2.5 works as expected on Ubuntu 24.04.1.

As always, any help would be really appreciated.

Hi @glenbuck1,

Did you rebuild liquidsoap after the system upgrade?
I'd recommend rebuilding not only liquidsoap but the whole ocaml switch as it may depend on the previous versions of various system libraries.

thanks for very quick response. I did issue opam install liquidsoap and was told that it was already installed. Did you mean a different style of rebuild?

Try creating a new opam switch and build liquidsoap from the ground up.

Hi, again

After getting the errors in the attached file when trying to create a new switch, I tried running
sudo apt-get install ocaml

and got the following error:

ocaml is already the newest version (4.14.1-1ubuntu1)

I'm even more lost now since I already have ocaml 4.14.2 installed!

The error is because, when liquidsoap was built, there was a libswresample.so.3 shared library file available in your system and the binary was built expecting to have it available but now it is missing.

This could have several causes, for instance:

• You build liquidsoap using opam but then later did a system upgrade (for instance using apt-get remove) that removed the library file
• The library was upgraded to a newer version
• etc.

The best is probably to go back to how you installed liquidsoap and redo the install again to get a fresh binary built with up-to date dependencies for your system.

If you installed with opam you could typically do:

opam reinstall liquidsoap

Thanks to you both for your guidance...I opened up the security to allow Bubblewrap to run as suggested in the ocaml link; I then re-reinstalled ocaml and now Liquidsoap is running.

I have other Ubuntu issues but these are not to do with Liquidsoap.
