I can confirm that DAVx5 (It's open source and you can either pay for it in the Google Play Store - 3,99€ - or build it using Android Studio) is the best way to sync calendars and emails on Android. --> Source: https://gitlab.com/bitfireAT/davx5-ose

I'm using Synology Calendar and CardDav. Works like a charm ;)
