MS has created a major release of the MS SQL JDBC driver: https://github.com/microsoft/mssql-jdbc/releases/tag/v12.4.0

This should be included in the Quarkus main.

please try just updating the jdbc driver in your projects pom directly - if that works I wouldn't say we absolutely need to release a version of 2.16 to update the ms jdbc driver.
