I start off by mentioning a little about myself, then I start talking about the club.
Give the usual pitch, we’re a club at Purdue where our members make creative technical projects (and sometimes I mention that we fund a couple projects). Mention some of the cool projects students are making.
Then talk about the things we’ve done: maybe burst or the woz ama or some of our donors (Paul graham, cloudflare, vercel), then I make the ask. Usually I mention that we’re short on funds and need money to pay for pizza, and sometimes I also say that we use the money to fund projects.
I then thank the person for their time and mention something about them that I find cool (“we’re really excited by your company” or “we’re inspired by your work in this field”). Then I end the email with our website and sometimes my calendar (I’m gonna start replacing calendar with donation link).
I put hyperlinks for every major thing I mention, so the email has a lot of sites people can see (the sign’s blog post if I mention it, the woz ama on YouTube (or Twitter/X if I’m emailing an Elon fan/employee), etc)
