I used Pragha on Manjaro and I really liked it, so I decided to use it on my Debian computer as well. However, the very nice integration I remember from Manjaro is not working anymore.
Specifically, my media keys to start/stop track do not work, and the volume icon does not change to a media icon when music is playing. I assumed the problem is Cinnamon, but I notice that Spotify manages to work correctly.
In Manjaro did you also use Cinnamon?.
I do not know cinnamon but Pragha has three protocols to control it.
MPRIS2, the most standard, and the multimedia keys are registered by MPRIS2 controller and this communicates with pragha.
gnome-media-keys: This deprecated by gnome in favor of Mpris2, but the operation is similar.
'Global Hotkeys' plugin, that pragha registers multimedia keys, and controls globally by itself. Unlike the previous ones, this is optionally compiled. Maybe Debian not build this plugin.
