Problem description
For phetsims/qa#799, I am getting the message "Unable to check for Updates" in version 1.2.0-dev.2 and in master. This doesn't happen with the full version of Geometric Optics.

Steps to reproduce

1. Go to the PhET menu and select "Check for Updates"

PHET > Check for Updates only works (and only makes sense) after a sim has been published to the PHET website. Geometric Optics has been published, Geometric Optics: Basics has not. So that describes the behavior here, and it's expected. Closing.
