Looks like there have been a few fixes since the last release in 2014.
The drupal modules geofield and search_api_location currently explicitly rely on the dev-master branch. That could break if you ever start a new major version/add an API breaking change there.

Also, there is a problem (maybe temporary) with packagist not showing the dev-master release anymore: https://packagist.org/packages/phayes/geophp (asked them on twitter: https://twitter.com/berdir/status/968436057300717568).
