Search on Account.Name?

Hi,
Is there any way to search on name fields of a standard object such as Account.Name?
I can't seem to find name field the standard field list?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reaching out. The challenge with the Name field is that every single object has a field called Name, so the matching on the field name is a bit complicated (at least when it comes to code).

We are making significant changes to how we match standard fields and you can follow the progress here

pgonzaleznetwork/sfdc-soup#4

Once the above is implemented, I will review how to include the standard name field on the list.

In the meantime, would you be able to explain your use case?

Apart from the challenge of searching Apex code, do you face challenges for layout, report type, validation rules etc?
Also I noticed that I was able to see other standard field such as Opportunity.StageName, what is the reason that happy soup can report on some of the standard fields not the others?

re: our use case.
We have a large enterprise org which is being worked on by multiple teams. We are trying to standardise business legal name for business accounts used in different apps in our Salesforce org. Some app uses a custom field say. Account.Legal_Name__c, some apps use Account.Name. We wanted to see where Account.Name is used throughout our org such as: apex code, portal, report, page layout etc, so we could work out a plan to standardize the business name field for all apps.

That makes sense. So right now we only search for standard field dependencies across

• Workflow field updates
• Workflow Rules
• Apex triggers and classes
• Visualforce markup
• Visualforce email template
• Validation Rules

This is because the MetadataComponentDependency, the API that allows for inspecting dependencies, does not support standard fields. So we have our own custom code that does a best effort in finding standard field references across the above metadata types.

The reason some fields are available and others are not, is because I arbitrarily decided which fields were probably most important for a given object, and I decided to exclude the Name field because of the difficult of matching it correctly.

Currently the supported list of standard fields is as follows

fieldsByObject.set('Opportunity',['StageName','Amount','CloseDate','IsClosed','ForecastCategory','HasOpportunityLineItem','Type','Probability','IsWon']);
  fieldsByObject.set('Account',['Industry','AccountNumber','AnnualRevenue','IsPersonAccount']);
  fieldsByObject.set('Case',['ClosedDate','Origin','Priority','Status','Type']);
  fieldsByObject.set('Contact',['Birthdate','LeadSource']);
  fieldsByObject.set('Lead', ['LeadSource','Industry','Status']);

I can add more if you have any suggestions (except the Name one).

As I said, once we make the improvements of pgonzaleznetwork/sfdc-soup#4, we might be able to include the standard name field.
