Last week I organized part of the field practice for future geography teachers. The goal was to learn them, how to organize an orienteering. We used a common orienteering map, created courses and printed the maps, later we also uploaded the XML and map to Usynlig-O and tried out how the application works.
The question from the students was: If there is no map for orienteering, how can they organize such an activity using the map and Usynlig-O? My answer was that state base map can be used, but the course setting is limited to path junctions and major features. The Czech national geoportal allows to export georeferenced rasters and PDFs. We made a test to open it directly in Purple Pen, but the georeferencing seems to be ignored. So my question is, can this be considered as future functionality? Of course this can be solved using the OO Mapper with the correct CRS and declination settings, but the goal is the simplicity for the non-orienteering users who quite often lack knowledge of more complex settings.
