Getting Clients Real IP address

I have had to use the X-Forward-For method to get the real IP addresses of my users.
Can you use something like:

    else if($_SERVER['HTTP_X_FORWARDED'])

        $ipaddress = $_SERVER['HTTP_FORWARDED_FOR'];
