The users are requesting for the extra click that would provide them with the knowledge that they physically carried out a positive action to share a file/folder.

This is a crucial point of a positive reinforcement and a good user experience. Let the users know that they are in control of what is going on. Even at the expense of have yet another button to click or any other action to carry out, users greatly appreciate being in control (or at least feeling like they are).

Rember little children wanting to do everything by themselves (tying shoes, pushing carts, …) and not have their parents do it for them? That carries over into adulthood. I would like to go into more detail … another time perhaps :-)

Controllability: the dialogue is controllable when the user is able to initiate and control the direction and pace of the interaction until the point at which the goal has been met.

and also

Conformity with user expectations: the dialogue conforms with user expectations when it is consistent and corresponds to the user characteristics, such as task knowledge, education, experience, and to commonly accepted conventions.
