Steve Coast is proposing...

Renders which show the / a worst version of the map, ie. show only buildings with basic addresses, show all other buildings greyed out (or in some other way).

https://youtu.be/uB9NxbnE1i0?t=7850

This could also be done for ie. addresses, since OSM still misses a significant amount of them.

What will this enable that we can't do today?

Engage people more directly to contribute data which is incomplete or missing.

Whom does this benefit?

  • Beginners: creates focus
  • Consumers: get better data

Any drawbacks?

People will complain their house is not on the map, etc.

Resources needed to build and maintain?

Renderer hosted by someone on their own infrastructure.
OSMF could host it, but it is unlikely this will happen in the near future.

Anything else you want to add?

the community is not shaped in that way... ([you have people trying to map trees in zoos etc., which is not connected to the problem.])

None.

Any ideas for a project name?

  • AbsentOSM
  • NotOnOSM
  • OpenVoidMap
