I am Someone else is proposing...

An OpenStreetMap app. Not much different from the existing website.
OSMF could then decide whether this app should be the official companion for the website.

What will this enable that we can't do today?

Example: Slightly better UI for touchscreens, possibly useful when more complex features like #1 come out.

Whom does this benefit?

Example: Mobile users

Any drawbacks?

Example: An app could be considered redundant.

Resources needed to build and maintain?

Anyone interested could create one, although its intentions would need to be explicitly stated and shared with OSMF, as well as branding possibly disabled until approved.
It would be an independent project at least until it would be approved by OSMF.

Anything else you want to add?

Apps which differ too much from the website are not directly relevant to this issue (i.e. navigation app, editing app..).
