Error: Password Authentication Failed for user 'firefly'

Hey guys,

I am trying to install firefly-iii with pico and I am following this yml file to install.

Now after deploying this stack I am getting this error on my firefly_iii_db container:
2024-06-24 06:50:28.683 UTC [53] FATAL: password authentication failed for user "firefly" 2024-06-24 06:50:28.683 UTC [53] DETAIL: Role "firefly" does not exist.

And due to this error:
Could not poll the database: SQLSTATE[08006] [7] FATAL: password authentication failed for user "firefly" (Connection: pgsql, SQL: select "id", "name", "data" from "configuration" where "name" = is_demo_site and "configuration"."deleted_at" is null limit 1)

What am I missing?

My environment file contains {DB_PASSWORD} variable.

Is the correct expression not ${DB_PASSWORD}? Although it should not make a difference, because "{DB_PASSWORD}" is also a valid password.

I am having an identical issue. Very frustrating that I followed the docs to a tea and this is still happening. Not sure why this is getting no attention.

Sorry about that. In my defense, I have not yet seen a case where this was not a user error.

I absolutely agree it's user error. I do however think it's because the documentation is incorrect, incomplete, or easily misinterpreted.

Make sure you delete all database related volumes when you start over.

Hi James, great update. Following these instructions carefully, I was able to gain access without issue. I'd also like to suggest possibly advising the user to omit all 'MYSQL' related environment variables and instead using 'POSTGRES' prefixed ones.
