I am afraid, there is no solid answer here. I like to scour the open PRs on the main components github to see what is coming in, what bugs are being fixed, what the team is busy reviewing That is the only reliable way, because the devs are busy coding or everyday life, and aside from Danielle writing on the blog, newsletter and mastodon when she gets to it, there isnt really a PR team maybe you can take a peek at https://github.com/orgs/elementary/projects/136/views/2 or you can check https://github.com/orgs/elementary/projects/146/views/1 but these arent really set in stone, and arent really official, more like corkboards full of sticky notes with yolo scribbles in the coffee room. you can also come on the discord. There is a development channel - it is mostly for quick interactions such as "hey can someone check out my cool branch" |

Hi all,
There's an interesting question—a good question—on elementaryos.stackexchange.com entitled "What resources can I use to follow the active development of elementary OS?" which was written and answered in 2015. I believe it deserves an update.
Sure, sure, I know about the blog, and the Patreon (with no new posts since 2022). Somehow—maybe as a Patreon sponsor—I seem to get emailed updates once in a while, but I don't feel super-tapped-in. I often hear about a new elementary OS release through the grapevine and just go check the blog. This is actually fine for me; I'm not an early adopter.
But what is the answer for new people, prospective switchers and contributors, like someone browsing through the GitHub discussions or the Stack Exchange questions?
Is there something like Launchpad anymore that shows a kind of central roadmap, now that development has moved over to GitHub? Is there an alternative to IRC in 2025, or do people still hang out somewhere on IRC, in the post-Freenode debacle days? I see a Matrix channel on https://elementary.io/get-involved, but that appears just for internationalization.
For updates about elementary OS development, what, follow the Mastodon account?
Thanks!
