To clarify: you refer to crossings mapped as nodes (vertices) of highway=* ways, not crossings mapped as individual lines tagged as highway=footway + footway=crossing + crossing=*, right?
I agree that these two synonymous tags should be rendered in the same way in iD. The cause for this is that there is currently no preset in the id-tagging-schema repository for crossing=uncontrolled. Therefore, I'm moving this ticket to that repository.
PS: Interestingly, I just noticed that JOSM renders all crossings except for crossing=traffic_signals and crossing=unmarked (and crossing=no) the same, even stuff like crossing=yes.
Yes. I meant pedestrian crossings points, not the lines.
The dot in a circle symbol is hard to notice. I came across some crossings mapped twice (marked) and a nearby, a somewhat off the actual location (uncontrolled).
Description
According to Wiki they are the same thing so why rendering them differently?
https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:highway%3Dcrossing
crossing=uncontrolled (used by JOSM preset) - with crosswalk without traffic lights
crossing=marked (used by iD preset) - with crosswalk without traffic lights
