B-Tree for SCM.

Extension canditates

“Small” extension candidates

ACOTSP, Ant Colony Optimization applied to TSP problem

OSSP xds

mssmtp

PC1 encryption algorithm

(some ZIPs )

LZO (compression library, )

GRZipII (compression library, )

ZZip/ZZlib (compression library, )

Oniguruma regex library (initially developed for Ruby).

Big but maybe feasible extension candidates

Libg3d - 3d viewer

http://automagically.de/g3dviewer/

ICU - International Components for Unicode

http://icu-project.org/

GAUL, genetic algorithm utility library

Recode, encoding conversion

Probably too big extension candidates

netwib (note to self: )

GpgME (GnuPG Made Easy)

GNU Simple Authentication and Security Layer (GSASL)

Big but interesting math extension candidates

NSNAM (nsnam.sourceforge.net, network protocol simulator)

IT++

(!!!beautiful!!! itpp.sourceforge.net, signal processing and communication library)

GetDP (are you crazy?)

glpk - GNU Linear Programming Kit

Libraries to be evaluated

Graphics and plotting libraries

pgplot

Written in Fortran 77. It is free only for non-commercial use. http://www.astro.caltech.edu/~tjp/pgplot/

LDNS, DNS library

Libtsp, signal processing library

http://www-mmsp.ece.mcgill.ca/Documents/Software/Packages/libtsp/libtsp.html ftp://ftp.tsp.ece.mcgill.ca/pub/libtsp/ (downloaded along with FilterDesign) Check out the copyright!!

Libuninum, converts integers to Unicode strings

LibTom, http://libtom.org, crypto library (a LOT of algorithms).

xySSL, SSL implementation

oRTP, real time protocol

libmrss, handles RSS stuff

(it needs libcurl!!!)

Discarded libraries

liboop

What is it: an event library.

Why not: cannot remember exactly, MM looked at it as a competitor for Libevent, but it has not impressed him.

MAPM, MAPMX

What is it: arbitrary precision math library and extension for complex numbers.

Why not: the library is nice but, in MM’s opinion, it cannot compete with the GMP tree of libraries.

Ilib

What is it: a competitor for GD, a graphics library to compose images from scripts.

Why not: it has less functionalities of GD and it is not used like GD is.

Built upon Provos’ Libevent. MM is not happy with Libevent, so…

Gri

What is it: a command line tool like gnuplot.

Why not: it is not a library.

MiniGUI

What is it: a standalone GUI environment for embedded devices.

Why not: it does not run under X Window.

GNU libavl

What is it: a powerful tree library.

Why not: too much time needed to learn how to use it.

PGPLOT

What is it: a plotting application.

Why not: other libraries are better.

GAOL:

What is it: NOT Just Another Interval Library

Where: http://sourceforge.net/projects/gaol/

Why not: it is written in C++ ;), we already have MPFI, is it still distributed (Thu Feb 1, 2007)?

Montreal Scientific Library

What is it: a collection of modules built upon GSL.

Where: http://savannah.nongnu.org/projects/libmsl/

Why not: are these algorithms useful at the Scheme level? I am a math non-expert and do not know what to do with them.

GD graphics library

Why not: stick with GraphicsMagick and Cairo.

G2 graphics library

What is it: a graphics library built on top of GD.

Why not: stick with GraphicsMagick and Cairo.

MPFS

What is it: an MP library with optimisation for exact computations.

Why not: it is unfinished and undocumented.
