Frequently asked questions

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
The repository does not contain an nginx module for compression into zstd format.

Describe the solution you'd like
I know of only one such module:
https://github.com/tokers/zstd-nginx-module
The developer considered this module experimental, but it seems there are no alternatives.

Describe alternatives you've considered
This module is already added to some distros:
Alpine - https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/commit/92af3e7acbeabff885976f306a0c035805898b69, https://gitlab.alpinelinux.org/alpine/aports/-/tree/master/main/nginx. They also added the yet unmerged PR tokers/zstd-nginx-module#23.
openSUSE: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/openSUSE:Leap:15.6/nginx-module-zstd

Distribution (please complete the following information):

  • OS: Ubuntu 24.04
  • Architecture: amd64
  • Repository: Ubuntu PPA

Additional context
The zstd format for Content-Encoding is already supported by modern browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera: https://caniuse.com/zstd.
It is also supported by some CDNs like Cloudflare: https://blog.cloudflare.com/new-standards
