As imaging technologies continue to develop, it is becoming increasingly common for volumetric images to consist of multiple channels of information to visualize different aspects of animal physiology or neural activity. Currently, the NWB schema only supports multi-channel imaging for 2D images using the RGBImage object. There is a need for additional data types to support multichannel imaging for both static images and image time-series. We implement this extension initially in C. elegans, but the need extends to imaging of other model organisms as well.
During the review of this proposal by the TAB, we noticed several overlaps with the proposed new data types from the ndx-microscopy extension.
To streamline efforts and enhance the proposal with complementary ideas and improvements, the TAB would like to suggest the possibility of collaboration. Specifically, we propose having @alessandratrapani join as a co-author for NWBEP003, enabling a merged proposal that integrates the strengths of both extensions.
Once the updated proposal has been aligned with ndx-microscopy and reviewed by the TAB, we will proceed with organizing the review group.
Please let us know your thoughts on this suggestion. We believe this collaboration could lead to a more comprehensive and impactful addition to core. We reached out by email but are also pinging you here in case this is a better way to reach you.
