I am migrating a project from one tenant to another in Azure Devops and I am getting this warning:

The field Microsoft.VSTS.Common.ClosedDate is set to Null and will revert to the current date on save!

I do not understand this warning. What should I do to fix it?

This has been a strange ongoing issue that we have not been able to replicate it. If you can debug in Visual Studio 2022 and see what the issue is we can help.

I pinned down the error to this line:

This is evaluating to false since IsChangedInRevision is false.

I have no idea what this field is used for.

The problem is that the field cannot be changed at this stage. If you check the IsEditable it always returns false. It also happens for other fields, not only the closed date. All documents that I found out say that this field is indeed read-only, so I am lost. I added to the query AND [System.ID] = 206327 to get only one WI, the one that I know fails. Not sure if that would be a problem, but I guess not. In addition, it is happening on a TASK WI. I haven't see it happening with other WI such as stories or bugs. It might be happening, but I dont think so.

I backed out the change, but also added a check into TfsWorkItemMigrationClient that will log a Warning if BypassRules fails to enable!

It should have been set when the work item moved to closed. There must be a reason in the history that it was not.

In the history of the source do you see it set when the item was closed?

If you look at the history of the source you will see when the ClosedDate field was set. Thats the revision that should be set on the target as well...
