Fork, Commit, Merge - Medium Issue (Bash)

Create a Bash Script to Monitor Disk Space and Send Email Alert

Note: You don't have ask permission to start solving the issue or get assigned, since these issues are supposed to be always open for new contributors. The actions-user bot will reset the file back to previous state for the next contributor after your commit is merged. So you can just simply start working with the issue right away!

Objective:

Create a Bash script that checks the available disk space on your machine. If the available space falls below a certain threshold, the script should send an email alert to a specified email address.

Requirements:

  • Threshold for low disk space should be configurable (e.g., below 20%).
  • The email should contain detailed information about the disk space status.
  • Use the df command for getting disk space information.
  • Use mail command to send email.

Next step is optional but if you would like to make this actually functional for email sending, you could use for example the mail command-line utility for that:

On Linux/Ubuntu:

sudo apt-get install mailutils

On macOS:

brew install mailutils

To run the script:

Make sure you are in the correct directory with the command:

cd tasks/bash/medium

Ensure you have the required permissions to execute the script by running this command:

chmod +x disk_monitor.sh

Execute the script:

./disk_monitor.sh

To work with this issue, you need to have Bash installed to your local machine.
Check out README.md for more instructions of installing Bash and how to make a pull request.
