You can use whatever input file extension you want...so I do not think this is an issue... Nastran was first so should be the one to choose ;D
Nevertheless I use .bdf or .dat which are the usual ones for MSC Nastran
Might be not a real issue, but there could be a lot of confusions an follow up posts on our public forum where some questions will be ask ever and ever again. We got a PR on FreeCAD and the developer used inp file extension which is not smart IMHO.
ATM all Abaqus and Calculix solver input files and mesh files use *.inp file extension. Thus there could be a lot of confusion.
Is there a general agreement which file extension is usually used for nastran-95 solver input files? We (from FreeCAD) would like to give the file a extension. The user can choose a different one either, but there should be some standard file extension.
Nastran file extension: *.nas
Abaqus file extension: *.inp
Nastran-95 file extension: seams *.inp ?
If the above would be true, it would be very confusing ...
