I was wondering if restore after restart option (like in Chrome or other browsers) possible?

There are two ways to approach this issue:

  1. Since zVD uses the built-in Windows 10 virtual desktops, this should be presented to Microsoft for feedback. Once Microsoft implements the feature zVD will not have to do anything.

  2. This might be able to be implemented in zVD. It gets tricky though since once the computer restarts and opens all the windows you had open prior to the restart then all of the windows will have different handles than they did before the restart. I can probably handle this by using window caption for the most part, but I can see where there are times that won't work.

It's very similar to these issue.

Ah, good to know that others are requesting this feature too!

I agree it is a hard one to implement, but it would be awesome to have it!

Hey, are there some news on this topic? I would love to have it 😩

FWIW, the M$ version of Task view timeline does remember which windows were open on which monitor and thus makes it easier to restore the windows distribution after a restart.
Unfortunately, this view is not available with zVD, though it remembers at least which windows were open (mostly likely these windows are really those which the OS remembered - but even so). Even an indication of which desktop the window was on when the system shutdown would help.

In any case, since handles are not preserved, the only thing persistent would be the windows titles/captions.

Not sure for which cases that would not work, but even having the app handle those cases where it would work would not only be a major improvement and time saver, but would also make zVD more attractive and user friendly

That's a valid point. It really should work with most windows by using the window captions and window classes. Let me see what I can do.

FWIW, I'd prefer to not depend on Timeline - I have now disabled this snooping by MS.
