blank home screen in UI after update from 2.15.0 to 2.16.1 #7912
Comments
(enabling the VPN from the command line works just fine) |
This still happens with 2.17.0 on Fedora 38. Qt version 6.5.2 |
Well, I removed all the "Mozilla VPN" configuration folders and 'vpn.moz' and it now works as expected. |
Well, well, my fix fixes nothing in fact. This still happens quite randomly. |
It seems to be happening randomly here as well, but more often than not it's blank. I'm still at 2.16.1. |
Here is my log when I manually start for the first time the VPN on a fresh startup:
If I quit the vpn and relaunch it, I have almost the same log. Only this warning is not more present at the second launch: Seems related to this issue. |
I'm having the same issue under Manjaro Linux, using gnome shell. |

Application can be run from the control panel and authentication Uninstall / reinstall dance did not fix anything. What needs to be done to get the gui back.{quote} |
➤ Santiago Andrigo commented: Naomi Kirby Basti Matt Lichtenstein Is this the QT issue? I’m more concerned now that this seems to be affecting Ubuntu as well. |

➤ Santiago Andrigo commented: Valentina Virlics Bianca Hidecuti Is this something you are able to reproduce with current versions? Do we have a way to test on Arch? |
➤ Santiago Andrigo commented: Downgrading in the meantime as:
|
No. I always use the latest version of the VPN and I have this issue. |
Where can we test that? |
➤ Santiago Andrigo commented: Oh, thanks Arnaud! Can you comment on which version are you seeing this now? |
2.18.0 (2.202310241804) |
@bbbart could you help me with the command you used to install Mozilla VPN build on Arch Linux? Thanks! |
➤ Valentina Virlics commented: I was able to intermittently reproduce this on Focal, using latest 2.20 build. Steps: while being logged in and the client closed, install without uninstall the latest version - same version also reproduces it, quit, reopen. Running into the same issue, Fedora 38. Initially thought it was my ad blocker breaking some network connection during startup, now I'm not so sure. Only thing interesting in the logs is |
I'm just using the |
I continue to have the "blank screen"-issue even in the now v2.19.0 - is there any fix to this? |
I just noticed that if I run |
➤ Bianca Hidecuti commented: Naomi Kirby, could you please add the fix version? Thanks! |
➤ Valentina Virlics commented: We are no longer able to reproduce the white screen on Ubuntu Focal, after performing an update as mentioned in https://mozilla-hub.atlassian.net/browse/VPN-5472?focusedCommentId=806058 ( https://mozilla-hub.atlassian.net/browse/VPN-5472?focusedCommentId=806058|smart-link ) . As we are not supporting Arch Linux, we don’t have a device set with this Linux version to check on. Maybe the users can also check while using the last 2.21 build. Naomi Kirby |
➤ Santiago Andrigo commented: Marking this as “Done” as QA verified on Ubuntu. If we hear from Arch not being fixed, we can re-open. |
