Pinch zoom control

When phone is in landscape mode, pinching in video (for example Youtube) only magnifies a tiny bit and when in portrait mode, pinching magnifies deep but in both modes user doesn't have any control. Zoom only goes into the center, so we can't control the depth and we can't control the position on screen. Wouldn't be nice to have that possibility? You can see how nice that works in Apollo app for browsing Reddit.
