Here is a direct call to an S3 method:

RNetCDF/R/RNetCDF.R

Line 327 in 3b1cdc9

attvalchar <- bit64::as.character.integer64(attval)

This will break in the future when as.character.integer64 is un-exported -- prefer calling as.character() and letting S3 dispatch do its thing.
