Heat uniformity #1
Comments
Note also that: Upper heater produced in aluminum 1 sided PCB was short circuit because the connectors were connected directly to eachother on the top side. Next time when ordering order this 2 sided aluminum, because the FR4 board created quite uniform temperature and the uniformity could be improved with aluminum. |
We have just built a set of Miriam device at Strawlab and decided to use FR4 for both heaters. The temperature variation now is around 10oC from the middle to the far edge. Will it be better if we use aluminum for them all? What is the fan connector for? In your thesis, the cover has some holes on the sides (Fig 1). Does it help in uniform the temperature? May I have more detail of the silicone sheet (thickness, dimensions)? |
I would definitely use aluminium, it will greatly help in heat uniformity. Fan connector is for possible future fan addition to aid in cooling the instrument. It was added after writing the thesis. The picture in the thesis is just made for illustrative purposes, instrument as that has never been built. Heat conductive silicon sheet was around 2-3mm thick and all the details of it are listed in the bom |
Thank you for the information. We are ordering the aluminium boards. Hope we can reach the temperature in range of 63-65 like in your thesis after changing the heaters and adding the silicon sheet. |
All the best for the experiments. Silicon sheet to cover the whole plate, no holes for the wells |
Currently heating elements have been optimized so that the temperature in the middle is what the user requests. There is a temperature gradient to the sides, optimize both heating boards.
