1.16.X not installing

I am trying to install 1.16, but it is not working.
I can see the downloading bar, and then the extracting bar, but it stays at "download and play"
The version I am using is: "Latest version (Google play)"
Ubuntu 20.04

Such a old version can only download 1.14.1.5 or older.

I mean, if you use the version I linkedthen, you will see 1.16.210.5 as latest  (1.16.220.2 cannot be opened yet). The news will load in the middle of the Launcher. The Launcher disables the download and play button during download. The launcher notifies you that 1.16.220.2 isn't supported yet. Your screenshot is from an version over a year old.I cannot fix bugs which are fixed since a year.

I recommend to uninstall the old version."I tried this, but it didn't help", You have to mark the file executable (`chmod +x /path/to/file.AppImage`), then open it `/path/to/file.AppImage`. Replace /path/to/file.AppImage with the actual file path. If that is too complicated, you find the flatpak here https://flathub.org/apps/details/io.mrarm.mcpelauncher , which creates an icon in the startmenu.
