One key goal of Kiss is to allow efficient static compilation using type information.

It is also a key goal to maintain the dynamic nature of Clojure. So we want to maintain the flexible nature of Clojure's protocol based dispatch.

This implies that we need functions with the following properties:

  • Can dispatch based on type dynamically at runtime (using runtime type checking)
  • Can statically optimise dispatch based on type comparisons at call sites, where the paramter type is know
  • Can extend dispatch functions with new types (as with Clojure protocols)
