This might be a really dumb question, here it goes: How to use the program?

What I'm doing now: I ran the program, it said its "waiting for input..." and then I ran the OpenAuto program. I did not see the volume overlay bar. It could be because OpenAuto doesn't allow it or I might be totally doing it wrong.
Can you help me, how am I supposed to run it?

After running vol_overlay.py, you should be able to press the multimedia keys on the keyboard,
If you press vol up/down or mute, it should adjust the volume and also show the volume overlay for approx 5 seconds.
