Arduino IDE recently added additional fields to library.properties to allow for linking with static libraries.
see: https://github.com/arduino/Arduino/wiki/Arduino-IDE-1.5:-Library-specification#libraryproperties-file-format

Add the appropriate variable to the platform.txt, See mcci-catena/Arduino_Core_STM32#130 for an example.
