When using a checklist, the first character of the first selected value is being removed and the string parsed incorrectly.
For example,

dialog.checklist 'message', [['val1', 'label1'], ['val2', 'label2']]
 => ["al1 val2"]

You can work around this problem by adding a leading space to the values:

dialog.checklist 'message', [[' val1', 'label1'], [ ' val2', 'label2']]
 => [" val1", " val2"]

However, this breaks the shortcut keys since each starts with the same character.
