the resistor from LED to GND is shorted in the sender diagram on

You are correct. Thanks for the report.

@DiggiD As you provided the original diagram, could you please supply us a corrected diagram?
Basically, the resistor shouldn't be purely vertical on the breadboard. Currently it's not having any current limiting effect.

I've tried to create a fix version with Fritzing, but I'm hopeless at it. Anyone with some Fritzing (or similar) skills want to take a shot at correcting it?

Yeah, I noticed that too when I was (cough) attempting to duplicate it in Fritzing.
