the app icon #489
Comments
I'm sorry, but icon now don't uses gradients for shadows which was against HIG, the icon size is now correct, the pixel-perfectness are better. shadows (20% transparrent black rectangles) can be used to add depth to the icon (e.g GNOME Clocks), the symbolic icon can have transparent parts (icon-development-kit and Adwaita Demo) and the symbolic icon does not have blurry anti-aliasing. |
the old icon doesn't use gradients for shadows , it's the shape of the internals , currently it makes no sense , also it's way too cluttered for a 64*64 icon , the symbolic is looking terrible on the top bar on 1080p displays with no scaling , this icon is a massive downgrade that i put it in a folder just to never look at it again |
Ok, let's try to clarify this on the factual level. Symbolic iconI have a screenshot of the symbolic icon at 1080p and I can't see that it is blurry. Looks perfectly sharp here. However, I'm toying with the idea of maybe reverting to the old icon in ViewSwitcher because it fits better with the other two icons in terms of size. App iconThe updated icon looks definitely sharper to me, which I like. But it also looks very 3-dimensional and that's where it maybe stands out a bit among the other icons and maybe that's too much 3-D. I'm not sure, but maybe one can get the plasticity out a bit by moving the perspective down a bit more (maybe even the same perspective as the Nautilus icon). But since I plan on submitting pods to GNOME Circle anyway once it reaches version 1.0, we don't need to worry too much about that right now either. Because I think we'll get feedback on icons there too, and can always adjust/change that later. |
the symbolic is blurry when you look at the small rectangle |
Thanks to all for the new suggestions
This is at least more in line with GNOME HIG regarding perspective. The original idea once was that the icon should resemble a Pod such like But I am unsure if it is even possible to give the impression that it is a long transport container with the frog perspective required by GNOME. To me, it looks more like a flat box in this perspective. I wouldn't mind trying a completely different approach, either.
That looks excellent. |
Maybe the Nautilus style icon can be improved by adjusting the perspective inside the pod. |
Yeah, I maybe this could work. @daudix-UFO what do you think? To me, this perspective looks much better, but the packages are not placed in such a way that it looks like a container. Probably the packages should be on the bottom of the container. Also, I think shadows of the packages don't fit here. I also think that the contents of the container could be a little more diverse. For example, different colors could be used, one package for example could have fallen over and is leaning against the inside wall of the container. |
Love @marhkb 's new design! |
I think this should also be added here. Currently the Icon of the app shows as this in KDE Plasma. Black borders around it. It seems to be an issue with KDE : https://discuss.kde.org/t/can-you-fix-gnome-icons-black-frames/1854. But still I guess you can fix it with icon being |
the new app icon doesn't fit in the gnome design guidelines in many ways , it's way too cluttered and the highlights are too bright while the shadows are very dark making it look even more busy , and to make the matters worse the symbolic reintroduces the blurry anti aliasing issue and uses semi transparent pixels which is against the guidelines of gnome symbolic icons
