We are dropping windows support per #848. Rather than have appeveyor keep failing and the build scripts fall more out of date I think we should explicitly remove window support, to avoid confusion. I think what this will look like is (at least):

  • disable appveyor
  • remove the appveyor badge
  • remove the build scripts in scripts related to windows
  • mark all wiki pages and readme notes related to windows as deprecated (or remove them)
  • what else?
