Hi mapsgeek, have you found way to resolve this issue? I have same issue..

i didn't find a solution on windows to install anything related to mapnik, so i switched to ubuntu, even on ubuntu i faced some issues and had to keep changing the npm versions via nvm until i find a compatible versions.

(at the risk of stating the bleeding obvious) installing Ubuntu inside Windows 10 as described at
https://www.openstreetmap.org/user/SomeoneElse/diary/42617 should do what you want while still keeping Windows around as the main OS (if that's what you want to do).

mapnik has dropped support for pre-built binaries on Windows. See mapnik/node-mapnik#848.

This is not a node-pre-gyp issue.
