Program freezes on startup (white/blue/black screen)

I downloaded this today and got the hang of it and went to eat dinner got back on and it'll open a window with a half loaded blue screen and freeze and not respond. Just want to know how to fix it.

If your client window popup but freeze after some time (blue or white) then it's an auto-connection problem. Your main server may be down or slowdown -- that's normal after new xmage releases. Wait some time and try later.

Easy fix: run xmage without internet connection and uncheck auto-login checkbox in popup connection dialog.

Hard fix: If you don't want to go offline then use that:

• For Windows: go to search -> regedit -> run it (for windows machine) and delete autoConnect setting in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\mage\client:

• For MacOS -- find settings file and delete/change same param:
  The preferences files generated by the Preferences API are named com.apple.java.util.prefs. The user’s preferences file is stored in their home directory (~/Library/Preferences/). Warning: you must restart Mac after edit/delete that file to apply new changes.

  • If you can't find ~/Library/Preferences folder then use special command to enable it: open Spotlight, Applications > Utilities, or Launchpad -> Utilities, and enter:
  • chflags nohidden ~/Library/

• For Linux -- The user’s preferences file is stored in /home/xxx/.java/.userPrefs/mage/client
