Since updating to 1.7.10 git does not create a .git folder for submodules, but a .git file with a gitdir entry that points to a folder in the root projects .git directory.
Gitx currently does not support this when trying to open the submodule separately.

(please also note that this feature didn't necessarily has been introduced in git 1.7.10, that's just the version I'm currently running to reproduce the behavior)

Just checked out the latest git build & the problem seems fixed.
