Uplift Dependencies and Java Version

Hello - this plug in is awesome! However, there are medium-level vulnerabilities in it's dependencies. For example, with the Spring core 4.3.7: https://snyk.io/vuln/maven:org.springframework%3Aspring-core. Can we update the dependencies and bring this to Java 8.
