Kodi stuck on "PVR manager is starting up: 0%" #929

Hello. My previous build was a CoreELEC build running Kodi 20.x on a generic Amlogic S905X4 box, in which I was using the Arctic Horizon 2 skin and had Simple IPTV installed. For a long time I've had ocasional problems where, when starting up, Kodi would be stuck on "Waiting for PVR" (which is a step on starting up with Arctic Horizon 2, I believe because of it's default Live TV widget). It would force me to press cancel that step by pressing the back button on my remote, which would load Kodi, but without the Live TV section. When this happened, it would also often lead to a crash if, when exiting, I chose "Reboot", instead of "Shut down", forcing me to unplug the box. In the last few months this got worse, to the point of happening every time I turned on the box.

I also tested this on a Windows install of Kodi, running the most recent version, and the same would also happen. The difference is that the crash would now occur whenever I pressed "Quit" (I didn't have "Reboot" or "Shutdown" configured on the skin in this build). This would happen regardless of me having an m3u list configured in IPTV Simple Client or not. What would fix it, however, is uninstalling IPTV Simple Client. When I was searching for answers, I found this comment: kodi-pvr/pvr.vuplus#278 (comment). I tried that workaround, which didn't work immediately, but worked once after one or two restarts. That time, the Live TV widget loaded with both the Demo channels, and the ones from the m3u list (obtained here https://github.com/LITUATUI/M3UPT) that I configured while following the aforementioned workaround. When quitting Kodi, no crash happened. However, next start, the problem returned. Now the Live TV section was populated with the Demo PVR channels, but not the ones from said m3u list, and quitting Kodi would result in a crash. Trying to uninstall IPTV Simple Client would not work, and would require a Kodi restart and new uninstalling attempt before it would be uninstalled.

My CoreELEC build eventually died (I suspect because of unplugging it too often during the crashes). I am now attempting a new CoreELEC build (latest stable version) and, before configuring it and installing addons and a skin, I tried installing IPTV Simple Client. Even without adding an m3u list, when I head to TV, Kodi gets stuck on "PVR manager is starting up: 0%".
I have uploaded the log here: https://paste.kodi.tv/ivipixikeq, hopefully it can be of use, and this issue can be fixed.

This last part is probably out of place, but is there an alternative to IPTV Simple Client you guys can recommend for me to use in the meanwhile?

That’s expected behaviour if you don’t have an M3U configured.

If you use the default skin, does anything change?

The new CoreELEC installation mentioned above and respective uploaded log was using the default Estuary skin.
I have now also tried switching the skin on the Windows build to the default Estuary, and then did the following (all while using Estuary):

  1. Already had Demo PVR installed. I then installed IPTV Simple Client and configured the aforementioned m3u list. Immediately after, both the channels from Demo PVR and from the m3u list appeared on the TV section, and I was able to watch just fine.
  2. I then restarted Kodi (no crash). Now, on the TV section, only the channels from Demo PVR appeared, and not the ones from my m3u list.
  3. After this, I tried disabling the Demo PVR addon, and then opening the TV section, which got stuck on "PVR manager is starting up: 0%". Exiting Kodi resulted in a crash.

I have just gone to bed, as it is late here. Will do that tomorrow whenever I can. Sorry, for this.

Hello, finally got the opportunity to do that.
Step 1 went exactly the same way.
So did step 2 (only the channels from Demo PVR showed up). Here is the log: https://paste.kodi.tv/ziyivuxije
Attempting to exit Kodi after this resulted in a crash.
