I cannot reproduce this error in the current master branch:

(I used the shift key in Chrome on MacOS)

Thanks! Maybe the reason is our old version of Kitodo.Production.

Still, it would be interesting, if it works on Windows as well. Probably some users can give feedback here.
If it works, i would close the issue.

Did not work on Linux with Firefox on 3.6.0-SNAPSHOT from 03/01/2023 too. I'm unable to enter the question mark sign in any input field in the meta data editor.

Was there any changes from 03/01/2023 until 3.6.0 release in September 2023 which can cause this issue?

@henning-gerhardt none that I am aware of. Could it be that you changed some metadata editor shortcuts and used "shift" + "ß" for something else? You can check your metadata editor shortcuts under "User menu" -> " "User data & settings" -> "Metadata editor" -> "Change keyboard shortcuts"

I'm not aware that it is possible to define short keys :-o So I did not change them or assign any short keys.

Okay, this are the default (?) short keys for my user account:

After deleting all of them I'm able to enter the question mark in the meta data editor! After adding this keys back I think that the "Shift Minus" from "Hilfe anzeigen" was the short key which prevent the entering of the question mark for me.

@andre-hohmann : Is removing the short key for "Hilfe anzeigen" or all of the short keys helpful?

@henning-gerhardt , @solth : Thanks for your investigations!

Applying F1 for Hilfe anzeigen is in my opinion the best solution. The other shortcuts are very helpful and should not be removed.
I have created an article in the wiki for it: Tastenkombinationen (Shortcut, Tastenkürzel).

I close the issue, because nothing needs to be done.

I'm reopening this ticket because I've heard that several users have stumbled upon it. We should make it a different default for new installations so that it works automatically. I think it would be a good idea to distribute F1 for the information dialog as a new preset.
