Metadataeditor: Connecting a page to more than 2 structure elements in the gallery

Describe the bug
There is a confusing behaviour in the functionality of the metadataedior/gallery, when you want to tag the following situation: a page shows the end of a chapter, a tiny independent chapter and the beginning of a further chapter

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:

1. Go to Metadataeditor, chosing pages in the gallery and tag a "chapter" or s.e.
2. Adding an empty structure element as "Als letztes Subelement" in the structure tree (any chance to realize in the gallery!?)
3. Chosing the last page of the already tagged chapter in the gallery and using the function "Mit nächstem Element verknüpfen"
4. Chosing the next pages in the gallery and tagging as third structure element
5. Error: Mixing the newest structure element with the chosen pages of action nr 4 between the connecting for the special page from nr 3 - see the last screenshot below

Expected behavior
Adding the last/third structure element regarding the page order

I am still trying to understand what is going on in the specific constellation here, so maybe i draw the wrong conclusions. But i think the issue outlined here should also be discussed in a more general way. I opened a discussion:
