Wirting @op will notify thread starter.
functionality heavily used over the Internet

I've never seen this used, although this is just one point of view. What sites do this?

I don't see this as useful, especially when the OP gets notified about replies by default anyways.

@pitaj i have that disabled always xD
this doesnt have to dot with that anyways, instead of writing @pitaj i write @op and i mention thread opener

Uses to write @op:

  • i´m at the end of the thead and i dont have to go back to remember who opened the thread
  • i dont remember exact nickname
  • i´m lazy
  • i want to go fast

so its just a shortcut, if you write @op it will write @pitaj on pitaj threads and he will get the notification

@julianlam i know this was used on vbulletin forums, example forocoches.com have it, first spanish board an top3 worldwide

Also if you have a user named "op", then you won't be able to mention them...

lol it could be a reserved word on user registration or just @ and one character, by default users length is 2 characters

it if cant be @op then @n for Nodebb or @o or @@ 💃
