I followed all the steps for running a simulation but the editor does not have a simulation panel (looks different from the online editor) and therefore in grasshopper the components arent populated. Can you please let me know if I'm missing a step? Thanks!

Can you post a screenshot? And more info on your system. You mean there is no simulation panel in the editor? Note that by default it is collapsed. It should be there, because it's hard-coded in the .html file, not dependent on anything.
I see, you are using a different version of this editor. Please note that that code is still experimental. We took out the simulation in that version, because we are looking for another simulation that.
If you want to create metamaterial mechanisms with the simulation, then please download the code from this repository.
Also, I think there are issues with the editor in Internet Explorer. I tested successfully with Chrome, consider using that.
